Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs Brings a New Trend to Market
One of the biggest benefits of attending the Winter Fancy Food Show is to get the inside scoop on industry trends. In fact, there were entire segments at the show that honed in on the most avant-garde trends on the up and up. One trend that stood out to us at DMN was brought to light by Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs, a company that specializes in vinegar-based health drinks. Founded by Anna Scott, the company is rejuvenating colonial period origins through its organic, raw apple cider vinegar-based beverages.
“A Shrub is a culinary term that defines a vinegar-based concentrated drink that originated in the colonial time period,” explained Anna. “My Shrubs are one of the few brands on the market that is 100 percent organic and made with raw apple cider vinegar with the mother (healthy drinking vinegar).”
All five of Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs flavors are Certified Organic by Quality Assurance International (QAI) and produced in a certified Safe Quality Food (SQF) level 2 facility. By combining quality ingredients and unique flavors, the company has managed to create a shrub that is big and bold and unlike any others in the market. The tall glass bottle sits well on a bar, appeals to consumers, and challenges the typical apothecary style bottle. Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs is currently in many retail chains, restaurants, and bars in the northeast.
“My Shrubs are extremely versatile and can be used in cocktails/mocktails, as a drinking vinegar, or as a recipe enhancer. They make great salad dressings, marinades, sauces, and can be applied to any place where vinegar is called for,” said Anna. “Making elevated mocktails and low ABV cocktails can be a challenge, but shrubs are a great solution for that. They provide a complex flavor that can be hard to achieve without alcohol.”
Shrubs have recently been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, and People Magazine. Food & Beverage Magazine named Shrubs the Trend of 2020. Anna’s Shrubs in particular were named one of four attention worthy trends at the Fancy Food Show by New Hope Network. Additionally, her products fit right in line with the sober curious movement and the increase in demand for low ABV cocktails. Anna’s Shrubs have been recognized by the June Addition of Food & Beverage Magazine, August edition of Bar Business Magazine, and has won 17 awards from the SIP Awards and Proof Awards.
Everyone in the industry should have their eyes peeled for this up-and-coming trend. For more new ideas being brought to light, keep reading Deli Market News.
