5 Ways To Use Shrubs in Cooking Recipes

If you didn’t know yet, you do now; shrubs are the best thing since sliced bread (with less carbs and less calories)! With their various health benefits and refreshing, dynamic flavor, shrubs are perfect for cocktails and mocktails of all kinds.

But we have good news – shrubs aren’t just for drinking. You can cook with them, too! Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs are 100% organic, and their main ingredient, apple cider vinegar with the mother, has a ton of health benefits. So cook with shrubs to add flavor and be healthy at the same time!

Here are five ways you can use shrubs in the kitchen:

1. Salad Dressings

The “apple cider vinegar” part of the shrub makes it perfect for salad dressings and vinaigrettes. We recommend our Strawberry Lemon Thyme Shrub to make your summer salad even more refreshing! Combine equal parts shrub and extra virgin olive oil, then mix well with balsamic vinegar and cracked pepper.

2. Marinades

The bold flavors of our shrubs can be experienced in grilled chicken, fish, and more. Anna’s Kitchen Shrubs make great marinades, with great flavor and no unhealthy ingredients. To try our Apple Cider Ginger Shrub with tuna, you’ll need the shrub, low-sodium soy sauce, orange juice, chopped garlic, and grated ginger. Let it marinate for a few hours and it’s ready to go!

3. Cooked Veggies

Looking for a way to switch up plain old vegetables? Shrubs to the rescue! For a flavorful Thanksgiving side dish, you’ll need our Cranberry Mint Shrub combined with melted butter and sliced shallot. Pour over Brussel sprouts to cook. These Cranberry Glazed Brussel Sprouts will put other veggie dishes to shame!

4. Fruity Salsa

Shrubs can make any salsa healthy without losing out on flavor. And who says salsa can only be made with tomato? Dice up some peaches, add chopped red onion, cilantro, and our Peach Jalapeño Shrub for this tasty salsa. Scoop with tortilla chips for a tasty combination of salty, sweet, and spicy.

5. Rice Pudding

The most important meal of the day: dessert. Our Banana Turmeric Shrub was practically made for this Banana Rice Pudding! Lightly simmer the shrub with risotto-style rice, coconut milk, water, sugar, and a pinch of salt. After letting it chill overnight, top with toasted coconut or dried fruit for a tasty treat that’s actually healthy!

There are more than just five ways to cook with shrubs. But these ideas should get you started in the kitchen, whether you’re at home cooking for family or a chef at a five-star restaurant.
